The pandemic has inevitably changed the way we socialize. A social gathering with friends and family, a friendly reunion at a local pub, a date night at a favourite restaurant seems to be a thing of the past now. They’re continuing to replace Zoom meetings, video calls on WhatsApp, and Facetime. But it’s bound to get monotonous over time. How long can a group of people go on with just watching each other on tiny boxes on a mobile screen? So, here’s a fun list of games to play on Facetime that is sure to enliven your digital meet-ups.

15 Fun Games To Play On Facetime

A list of games to play on Facetime:

1) Charades

This classic party game is the first on the list of games to play on Facetime. It’s simple to learn and easy to play. Since the game has heavy resources, it’s not all that hard to adapt it to a digital format. Charades are the ultimate test of compatibility like it’s always been.

How to play:

The rules are fairly similar to the original version. You’ll first need to divide yourselves into teams of two and decide on a topic. For instance, if the topic was movies, the first team decides on a movie and messages it to one of the members of the opposite team. This person will then try to act the movie and hopefully make his/ her teammate guess the film within a specified time period. This cycle continues as the second team suggests a movie to the first. Whichever team gets the most answers correct is declared the winner and wins the ultimate bragging rights.

2) Pictionary

Like Charades, Pictionary is a cakewalk to get started off with because it only needs a piece of paper and a pen. Contrary to popular belief, you need not have to be good at drawing in order to play this game. It’s more about imagination and lateral thinking and hence makes for a great facetime game.

To make up for the fact that you aren’t going to be seeing your teammates in real life, you can always draw the clues on a piece of paper and hold them in front of the camera. In case you think it’s cumbersome, you can always use a web application like Skribbl.io, where an algorithm takes care of sorting out the clues and points of the contestants. You could also end up installing the Houseparty application on your phone, which comes with a wide variety of games, including Pictionary.

How to use Skribbl.io

Log into the webpage and pick a character of your choosing. When it’s your turn to draw, pick one word from a choice of three. Start drawing using the picture board present on the screen. Your friends try to guess the word within a specified time period, usually a minute. You’re awarded points based on the number of people that got the answer right. The same rule applies when you’re trying to guess an answer. The quicker you guess an answer correctly, the higher are the points you secure. Whoever scores the maximum points after the end of all the rounds is declared the winner.

3) 20 questions

20 Questions is a popular facetime game to many who’re looking for games to play on Facetime. While it was primarily played during a laborious, long drive, it’s now being taken over by Zoom or Cisco WebEx.

How to play?

The objective of the game is trying to make others guess the object or a person by only having them asking yes/no questions. Whoever uses the least number of questions to get to the person or object wins. So, for instance, if the personality is Steve Jobs, you’d probably start off with the gender of the person. Then, move into their field of work and whatever demographic they cater to. You can then fixate on a specific niche and see if that takes you closer to the answer.

4) Two Truths and A Lie

Akin to the other games mentioned in the list, this game can also be played on Facetime, thanks to its simplistic gameplay. The rules are pretty straightforward. Every playing member comes up with three statements about themselves, out of which two are true, and one is false. The rest of the participants try to guess the wrong statement. Try to remember to maintain the same tone when listing down all the statements. But you can always throw your fellow participants off by intentionally deviating from the tone while stating something that is, in fact, true.

Two Truths and A Lie is a fun way to know people around you. It’s light-hearted, exciting, and always helps to loosen up people and get rid of their social inhibitions.

5) Would you rather?

‘Would you Rather?’ is a great example of a fun game to play with friends over Facetime. It can serve as a great ice-breaking activity, especially when working with large groups of unfamiliar people.

How to play?

As the same suggests, the game’s objective is to present two options to a person and see what they end up picking. You can then tell them what you’d have picked and have a conversation about why they chose the specific option.

For instance, you can ask them, “Would you rather stay in and get cozy with a book or go out and party with friends on the weekend?”. This answer reveals a lot about someone’s personality. The questions can get progressively absurd to make things more fun once you’re both comfortable with each other.

In case you can’t think of any questions on your own, there are a number of websites on the Internet that offer to help. ‘Would you rather?’ works great for first dates when you’re trying to find more about your date without coming across as too intrusive.

6) Geoguessr

Geoguessr is a relatively new addition to this list of games to play on Facetime. A significant amount of resources might be required for this and will take time to get used to. But, if you were a major geography nerd in school, this is the perfect activity for you.

How to play?

You’ll first need to create an account on Geoguessr. Once you’ve logged in, there are multiple options to choose from. Country streak is probably the easiest mode for beginners.

The game will show you a satellite picture of a place, and the objective is to determine what country it could be. Use the arrows on the screen to navigate and look out for any clues that might indicate its location. Signboards, license plates of cars, flags are the obvious ones. Once you’ve figured out the country, click on the map on the right bottom corner of the screen and choose the right place.

Once you’ve mastered this mode, you can then move on to the distance battle. Here, you’re not only required to guess the country but pinpoint the exact location of the country. The closer you are, the more points you earn.

Geoguessr also offers a real-time online battle mode where you fight against other players trying to guess the place. However, you will need a premium account to enjoy this feature. You can only play a single game per day with a free account.

Tips to perfect your game

  • Look out for which side the cars are driving. You can then start eliminating countries based on whether it’s right-hand drive or left-hand drive.
  • Try to pick up scripts and languages. It’s a valuable trick that helps you narrow down to a few countries. For instance, if you’re looking at the Cyrillic alphabet, you’re likely to be in Russia, Bulgaria, or Ukraine.
  • Pay attention to the street signs. Some of them are extremely specific to a region or a country. In Brazil, the roads usually have a prefix of the state. So, if you see RJ on one of the signs, you’re likely to be in Rio de Janeiro.
  • Be on the lookout for any mentions of email addresses on shop fronts or trucks. They’re usually specific to a particular country.

While all of this sounds like a lot of effort for a game, it actually does get easier as and when you play.

7) Cards against Humanity

Cards against Humanity markets itself as a game for horrible people. Originally a card game, it involves choosing the most offensive card in response to a prompt. Unlike other games, Cards against Humanity incentivizes being inappropriate.

Fortunately, they now have an online version that you can play with friends on Facetime. So, get ready for an outrageously fun session with your besties.

8) Psych

Psych is a ridiculously fun game to play with your friends. It consists of participants trying to come up with fake answers to an actual trivia question.

You can get points by two methods- by either choosing the right answer to the question or by fooling your fellow participants into choosing the answer that you’ve entered. The one with the maximum points at the end of a stipulated number of rounds wins.

Be mindful of the fact that it is a freemium game. So, you’ll need to pay actual money to unlock more features. Some of the other categories include “And the truth comes out,” where there is no real answer, and “Movie buff,” where you’re required to describe the plot of a movie as creatively as possible.

9) Never Have I Ever

Though originally a bar game played over multiple shots of alcohol, this game can easily adapt into a format that you can play over Facetime or Zoom

The shots are replaced with a show of hands. Like the original game, one person states something that they’ve never done before. Like, for example, “Never have I ever flown out of the country”. Those that have raised their hands and the format continues on.

The fun with Never have I Ever lies in the question that progressively gets raunchier. You begin to slowly realize that your somewhat decent friend may not be one after all. It combines the spontaneity of Truth or Dares with the insight that Two Truths and a Lie offers.

10) Battleship

Battleship for years has been the gold standard of a fun, easy to play strategy board game. The great thing about Battleship is that you don’t need to own the board game to play. A pen and a piece of paper should do. This aspect makes it a great option to play over a video call.

How to play?

The objective of the game is to sink your opponent’s ships before they sink yours. There are essentially five different types of ships. They are:

  • Aircraft carrier- occupies 5 spaces
  • Battleship- occupies 4 spaces
  • Cruiser- occupies 3 spaces
  • Submarine- also occupies 3 spaces
  • Destroyer- occupies 2 spaces

You place these ships over your field in any manner you please, either vertically or horizontally. Some prefer to stick to the edges of the board, but others prefer the center to throw off their opponents.

Once you’re both done placing your ships on the board, you start calling out positions from the battlefield. Your opponent will tell you if it was a hit or a miss. You get to continue until a miss. Once you get a guess wrong, your opponent switches to calling out positions and so on and so forth. The first one to destroy all the ships is declared the champion.

In case you’re confused about designing a grid, there are multiple websites from where you can find a pre-made grid. You can just take a printout of it and use it as a reference for all your games.

11) Complete the story

The game is fairly self-explanatory. Creativity and spontaneity are put to the test in this activity. The rules are pretty simple. You start off with a single line, and the next person continues the story by adding another line and so on. There aren’t any limitations to the number of participants.

What makes this game so enticing is that the story can change in an instant. What starts off as a heart-warming story of star-crossed lovers could soon transform into horror when they get locked up in an abandoned building or a frantic thriller where they’re desperately trying to escape from the clutches of a serial killer. It’s almost impossible to predict how the story will end.

12) What if?

This game also requires loads of creativity. The entire game hinges on coming up with imaginary scenarios like being shipwrecked alone on an island or being the only survivor of a fatal air crash.

What If?‘ offers a rare opportunity to insert yourself into situations that you’re unlikely to face in real life. You also end up getting an insight into how someone’s mind functions in the time of a crisis, even if it’s something that’s heavily simulated.

13) Last Letter

This road-trip favorite can also be played over Facetime, thanks to the less/no resources required to play the same. It’s something that is likely to appeal to everyone irrespective of how old they are.

How to play?

You’ll first need to pick a category. This category could be something broad like places or something relatively specific like scientists.

Assuming that the topic was scientists, the first person would probably call out Albert Einstein. The next person will need to think of a scientist whose name starts from the last letter of whatever the person before them said (n in this case). This continues until one person is unable to guess another person/object that belongs to the predetermined category.

14) What’s missing?

If you’re someone who takes pride in your ability to memorize things, then this is definitely the game for you. Grab about 9-10 objects from your room and place them in front of your laptop or computer screen. Make sure that the objects can be seen clearly by your opponent.

Once you’ve ensured that all the objects are visible, ask them to take a close look at all of them. Start a timer and give them a minute or so. After this, ask them to close their eyes and remove one object from the bundle of stuff in front of them.

Your opponent scores a point if they correctly guess the object you removed. Next, the roles switch, and you’ll be the one guessing the objects. You can make things progressively harder by shortening the duration of time that each of you gets to take a close look at the objects.

15) Sell it to me

Sell it to me is a classic improv game that is the benchmark of spontaneity. You’re given a seemingly random object, and it’s up to you to pitch the product in a manner that appeals to everyone on the video call.

Once you’re done pitching the product, your friends will need to give you a score out of 10 based on how convinced they were by the product pitch. These scores are tabulated, and the one with the most points at the end of all the pitches wins. He/she will get to enjoy the fruits of their labor and get the title of a master salesman.

Conclusion

So, that was a nearly exhaustive list of the games to play on Facetime. These games are more important given the current situation. Two truths and lies, Charades, and Complete the story, are all excellent options if you don’t want to spend money or your precious time on resources. But, if you’re willing to, then try giving games like Geoguessr a try. Either way, there’s loads of fun waiting for you!

Imagine that you’ve built a team by bringing all the smartest people in your department. You’ve given them the responsibility of working on your biggest project. But, things don’t always go according to plan, and you find that the team that you put your trust in hasn’t delivered any results yet. Theoretically, this strategic move should have made sense, but human behaviour is by definition unpredictable. One crucial factor that you might have forgotten to account for was team dynamics and if the contrasting personalities in the team can work together to get work done.

What Are Team Dynamics & How You Can Improve It

This article is designed to take you through the basics of team dynamics and why it’s so important in a workplace. Additionally, you’ll also be learning the characteristics of a great team so that you can use these pointers as the guiding principle when assembling a team for an upcoming project.

What is team dynamics?

Team dynamics is a term used to describe the behavioral relationships between the members of a group. It assesses how well the representatives are able to interact with each other—how effectively they’re able to communicate their ideas, and if they’re able to cooperate with one another. Healthy team dynamics is vital to the success of any company.

What constitutes good team dynamics?

While human behaviour is certainly erratic and unpredictable, most if not all social psychologists agree on certain factors that make up for healthy team dynamics. They are:

  • Shared purpose

The key trait of a winning team is that it has all its members working towards a common goal. When representatives work on their accord, they put their needs ahead of the needs of the team and the company.

On the other hand, decision-making becomes easier when all representatives have the same objectives in mind.

When trying to set goals for the entire team, try to follow the SMART approach. This proven tactic dictates that the goals need to be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound.

  • Trust and openness

Trust is yet another important trait of a successful team. Team members need to be able to trust each other to communicate their ideas without any inhibitions. They need to be assured that their opinion will be valued and that there’s no such thing as a bad idea.

This creates an environment built upon values of trust and openness where a participant can voice out their opinion without the fear of punishment or humiliation. Trust also extends to members believing in each other’s work ethic and skills.

A team leader needs to be able to trust his/her subordinates enough to believe that they will be able to deliver the work within the specified deadline. Lack of trust can sow in seeds of doubt among the team members, making them question their worth and skills as an employee.

  • Willingness to correct mistakes

Team members need to be in a position where they can own up to their mistakes instead of blaming them on someone else. They should be willing to learn from their mistakes. So that they can widen their skillset (or polish them) and contribute to the success of the company.

While it’s been established that participants need to be forthcoming with their faults, it’s the responsibility of the team leader to ensure that the environment supports them in their willingness to admit mistakes. A successful team doesn’t let the failure of a single member define them and works together to overcome it. Furthermore, they actively look for opportunities to minimize such instances in the near future.

  • Diversity and inclusion

One feature that is common to all productive teams is diversity. They comprise members from different walks of life who’ve all had their fair share of life experiences. When a problem is thrown at such a team, they’re able to devise a series of innovative solutions thanks to the difference in background. Each of their minds is processing information in widely different ways, resulting in wildly original thoughts and ideas.

So, when building a team, try to include members from different departments, each with their unique skillset and perspectives. One can achieve diversity by simply ensuring that all professionals are treated the same irrespective of their ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. Leveling the playing field is sure to boost the image of your company while attracting the best talent from the country.

  • Participative leadership

Micro-managers are detrimental to team dynamics. They often undermine the confidence of a worker, inadvertently building an environment based on distrust. This completely destroys the incentive of coming up with innovative solutions. So, participative leaders are the need of the hour.

They take a step back and allow the talent of their fellow team members to shine through instead of projecting their rigid thought process onto others. Instead, they integrate positive behaviors like meaningful collaborations and mutual respect.

Methods to improve your team dynamics

Once you understand the above-mentioned characteristics, the next step is to work on improving and building your team dynamics. These tested strategies should help you get closer to that goal.

  • Communicate as much as you can

Groups that communicate more often tend to have better odds of being successful. It can be tricky to share space with a bunch of strangers. Miscommunications are common in the workplace, and they threaten to destroy all social relationships.

So, it’s all the more important for team members to familiarize themselves with each other before starting work on a project. Once they start communicating, they understand that all of them are working towards a common objective. Individual needs are set aside, and the needs of the company are prioritized.

  • Embrace conflict

Conflict is a natural part of working together with peers. There isn’t a single right opinion; different people have differing views on a certain issue. In fact, this is the idea of brainstorming- to throw ideas out into the open and have other members of the team point out its logical flaws. This way, a team is able to test all of its theories and arrive at an airtight solution to a problem.

It’s a no-brainer that a team becomes much stronger when it goes through a conflict. Remember, acknowledging that conflict is a necessary evil is the first step towards healthy conflict resolution.

  • Create a team charter

Creating a team charter makes it easier to distribute responsibility among the members of a group. Teams are generally able to get more done when the role of each member is clearly defined. Moreover, it helps to define expectations and provides the metrics necessary to evaluate individual performances for future appraisals.

  • Decide on how decisions will be taken

Another part of team dynamics is determining how decisions will be made. This process needs to ideally be democratic and shouldn’t be based on a leader’s words alone. An environment where members feel that their opinion isn’t being valued cannot sustain itself for long.

Conclusion

Team dynamics is one aspect that is often overlooked while assembling a team to take on a challenging project. A keen understanding of group dynamics is an absolute must in today’s day and age where a single individual can eclipse the identity of an entire company.

Excellent team dynamics can boost employee productivity and allow teams to hit targets consistently. Infusing these traits into the fabric of your company might take extended periods of observation and guidance, but it’s sure to pay dividends in the long run.

As the pandemic spread its clutches all over the world, people realized the importance of staying at home. Companies also restricted the scope of their employees coming to the office. This implied that all the people had lots of free time at hand. It also meant kids, as well as other members of the family, were left bored and stressed out as they had no outlet to release their frustrations. Apart from that, social gatherings were not permitted, and spending time with family was the only choice left. However, with us, that is nothing to worry about. There are alternatives you can use to keep yourself occupied during these trying times. Here are some social distancing games that we suggest you should play with your family and beat the boredom blues away.

Social distancing games you could enjoy during these trying times

Social distancing games for family

As a family, you need games that do not require unnecessary closeness and yet inculcate a feeling of companionship among the players. Plus, the games should not be boring or something that keeps your children locked in the home for long. Here are some games that you may play with the entire family.

Charades

This is one game that you would have played since your childhood. From adults to kids, everyone enjoys this game of guesses. It is not only a fun game but also encourages the family members to rack their brains a bit. Just pick up titles of famous TV shows, actors, movies, and books and start the act.

You will have to enact the title in front of the opposing team. They then have to guess the name basis your acting clues. If enacted out cleverly, the game becomes rather exciting and, thus, a good time pass. Moreover, if you have the time, you could use props and costumes and add to the fun element.

Scavenger or treasure hunt

Social distancing games like this can be made quite a rather exciting event. However, you will have to plan many things in advance, that is if you want everyone to have a good time. Prepare a list of clues and decide what items should be hidden.

If going for a scavenger hunt, you could also ask your family members to find any items of interest and add a share of a fun twist to them before bringing them back. For example, if they collect flowers, they would have to make a collage out of them to bring back something useful out of it. Besides keeping all of you occupied, you will get items to store and cherish for the future.

Hide and seek

This is one game that never loses its exclusivity. Moreover, you can become as creative as you want with this option. The rules are simple, but there is always a scope of alterations. For example, you could introduce a small prize for the person who gets caught last.

Apart from that, a small appreciation for the most creative choice of the hiding place. Try to play this game in a large area as only then will it be interesting to look around. Moreover, you should keep in mind the social distancing norms as well.

Field games

Who does not appreciate some physical games outside? Especially if you have kids around you, let them soak out in the sun. Carry the football, badminton, and other items needed to organize tournaments. You could also look around for some twisty games planned around. Here are some ideas that you could choose from.

  • Water balloon toss
  • The obstacle course
  • 100-yard race
  • Egg and spoon race
  • Sack race

At the end of it do not forget to reward the players. You could prepare award certificates or give them small items as gifts, purely your choice.

Hula hoop

Social distancing games have to be engaging, too; otherwise, most participants would lose their interest too soon. The hula hoop is unisex as any gender can enjoy some time on it. Plus, it keeps the activity level of your kids high.

You may add a competitive feel to the same game. Just time out how far the team members can go in a stipulated time. You could also incorporate some prizes for the fastest, creative or efficient player. Or just leave it as a time for your entire family to fall, rise and laugh about the time you spend together.

I Spy

You must have heard of the I Spy books, but this is the time when you could apply them at your home. If you are playing this inside your home, start by asking the family members to guess what you are spying on. The person who gets it correct will get a chance to ask the next question.

The fastest the kids can answer, the crazier the game becomes. You could suggest a twist and ask your family members to bring back an item similar to the one that you’re spying on. A perfect companionship game, you do not have to be close enough, thus maintaining the social distancing norms.

Field day

While on a Covid break, everyone in the family gets bored of staying inside the house all time. However, if you have a massive ground around you, having a field day is one of the best Social distancing games. You can invite your neighbors as well and plan out different kinds of games.

We are sure you would be short of ideas on games. So here are some clues that you could start with:

  • Pillowcase potato sack race
  • Don’t drop the egg relay using spoons
  • Bedsheet tug of war
  • Balloon throwing on the fence (with colored water inside)

 Dance battle

When you are relatively short of time and ideas, the dance battle is a perfect choice. You could start by asking all the children to pick their favorite song. Then one of them can become the leader. The rest will follow his steps, and obviously, the best dancer gets the award for the same. Repeat the exercise and change the leader and song each time you do so.

Bingo

Bingo again works for all ages. In fact, for smaller kids, Bingo helps in recognizing the numbers and identifying them. The whole concept is relatively simple, and kids have no problems playing it. Apart from that, if you are just a group of adults, Bingo can also be a fun event with drinks and light snacks. Do not forget to keep awards and strict practicing of all the rules mentioned.

Cookie decorating

Cookie decoration, as the name suggests, can be an excellent and fun exercise. However, this activity is more for mothers and kids rather than the whole family. You can incorporate more fun into it by making new shapes and designs. This could include the kid’s favorite cartoons or numbers and alphabets. If you have more than one kid, you could allot them separate bowls and plates to do the cookie decoration work.

Social distancing games for adults

This is a difficult time for people of all ages. Not only children but adults too need their share of fun to keep their motivation high. Here are some socially distant games that you and your friends can indulge in. However, do not forget to maintain the social distancing rules.

Global quiz

How about testing your friends on their knowledge levels? Get your friends seated at a round table and bring out the rapid-fire questions. You could also divide them into teams and offer a grand prize to the winning team. Decide the categories you would like to question them on. For fun, you could ask crazy trivia questions that you know none of your friends will be able to answer.

Garden party Scattergories

Allot a time like 90 seconds and ask your friends to name as many things as they can in a particular category. Each answer gets the point, and the more they are able to answer, the better it is. The best is that this game could be played as an individual or as a whole team. The categories you can choose are:

  • Birds
  • Plants
  • Garden shed items
  • Cocktails
  • Bugs
  • Sandwich fillings
  • Countries

Giant Pictionary

You must have played the regular Pictionary on your normal days. However, this is the giant version and perfect social distancing games option. If you have got a flipchart or Blackboard, you could use the same. Or, if it is not possible, just cut out large areas of paper onto the garden fence wall. You could also use chalk and make the drawings if you have a blank wall. Use the word generator to get word clues that would serve the purpose well.

Who are we/Who am I?

Give all the participants a party hat, write a celebrity name on it so that they cannot see it. Now create teams of two members each. One person has to give the other one clues about the name written on his cap. If the other person is able to guess the correct answer, they get the point. They can use hints like male or female, actor/ politician, etc., to help their teammate guess the right answer.

Some examples that you could start from are:

  • William Shakespeare
  • Albert Einstein
  • Beyonce
  • The Queen
  • Florence nightingale
  • Mother Teresa
  • Donald Trump
  • Justin Bieber
  • Madonna
  • Michael Jackson

Play Detective

Ask all your guests to stand in a circle 6 feet apart. Then make one person the detective and ask him to leave the group. Once he goes, you have to decide on one leader who all the players are supposed to emulate. The detective will now come back, and he has to stand in the circle and guess who the leader is. He has only three chances to do so correctly. Next game, and you have a new leader and new detective to do the guessing work.

Two truths and a lie

A relatively simple game to understand, this can be more fun if you are out camping. Every player has to speak two truths and one lie. You can get as much creative in this game as you want with the lies you say. The fun is when you speak the lie so flawlessly that no one can guess it out. A fun-filled game, you can have as many rounds of it as you want.

Glow in the dark bowling

This is an exciting idea, but the problem is that you can play it only at night. Put glowsticks in glass bottles and use them as your bowling pins. The choice of the ball is purely yours; however, do not use a tough one as it might just smash the bottles into pieces. Have a competition and the one who gets a perfect score is declared the winner.

Alphabet challenge

This is our version of learning your alphabet once again. Choose a topic, and one participant says a word related to it. This will be followed by other team members continuing the trend and answering in alphabetical order. For example, if you start with novel names, you can say “American Dirt,” the second person says “Bridge to Terabithia,” etc., and so on.

Social distancing games for Kids only

Suppose you are looking for activities that keep your children busy while you are finishing your tasks that are also possible. Here are just some social distancing activities for kids specifically.

Simon Says

The game is simple and hugely popular among the younger kids. All the children have to stand in a group, and they have to do the opposite of the instructions given. This is not only enjoyable but an exciting way to teach the little ones how to obey and follow the basic guidelines when they join a school. You will be surprised at how quickly the kids learn these basic tactics, and as a bonus, you could make it quite fun with crazy instructions.

Kick it with Kickball

Now is the time to get your kids in full-on action mode. Get your kids’ buddies together and ask them all to stand in a vast circle. Ensure there is a lot of gap between each child; otherwise, the whole purpose of playing around will be lost. Not only do the kids enjoy the high-action-packed game, but they learn to wait for their turn. This is an aspect that no parent can teach their kids easily.

Hello Neighbour

This is one of the social distancing games for kids, which is perfect for only two kids. The idea is to hide the keys and ask your opponent to find them. After discovering the keys, you have to return them to the main door. You could use tips like “hot” and “cold” to guide the kids in discovering the exact location. However, the game becomes a tad difficult if more children come into the picture. Ideally, it is suitable for kids living next to each other or siblings.

Video games on the Porch

Why force your kids to sit inside the home all day? Set up their Nintendo switch outside on the porch and call over their friends. The kids will not come close as they are just quite happy with the idea of sitting together and playing games. Add some beautiful snacks, and the evening becomes a small occasion to celebrate for your little ones. Once they are all settled, you can also get around and finish your pending jobs.

Fence Freeze Fence

A fun-filled game your children are going to love completely. It is a perfect game if your kid’s buddies live just next door. Bring them out and put on the music. The kids have to freeze at their positions once the music stops. Till the time the music does not start, the kids stay frozen there themselves. If some kid is unable to freeze the moment the music is stopped, you can assign them a simple punishment like running around the house.

Driveway Chutes and Ladders

A simple game to play around with, just sketch a giant board game of chutes and ladders on your driveway. Add the numbers from one to a hundred and let your kids draw the ladders on them. You could add some fun twists while stepping on specific numbers. Like on stepping on number 10, you have to do ten jumping jacks. Or reaching number 95 means run down to number 5. The kids can not only have their share of fun but enjoy as many rounds on the board as they want.

Bust a rhyme

The Bust a Rhyme socially distanced games is primarily for the younger kids. Have all the kids stand in a circle and say a word aloud. This could be anything like “mat,” and the child next has to say a word that rhymes with this. Go around the circle until the chance comes back to the kid who started the game. Now the next kid will be the leader, and the chance will begin from him. Supposing a child cannot answer, he will have to do squats, lunges, or any other exercise. A nice trick to engage the kids and get his friends involved too.

Storytellers

Another fun game, this will build your child’s storytelling abilities. The children have to stand in a big circle. One kid speaks a sentence, and the next one continues to make a story. Once the whole circle is over and the turn comes back to the beginning kid, he will have to say the entire story along with all the other things added to the main storyline. If the leader fails to do the same, the punishment is your choice.

Snowman spelling game

This game is suitable for kids who just started forming spellings or learning how to do so. Form two lines with kids. One side thinks of a word and draws lines on the driveway to denote each letter of the word. The other team suggests alphabets one by one. If the alphabet is present in the word, it is written down on the line. However, if the alphabet is missing, then a part of the snowman is drawn on another side of the word. If your snowman is complete, it means you are unable to guess the word, and hence you lose the point.

Conclusion

This pandemic time is very hard on all of us. Despite our best efforts, the virus refuses to relinquish its control. However, this nowhere means that we cannot have fun on our part. Add these games to your weekly routine and shuffle between them so that you and your kids are not bored from doing the same things.

If you are indulging in a group activity, do not forget to follow the social distancing norms. At all times, keep the home and nearby places clean to avoid the spread of the virus. You can add your own twists to each of these social distancing games so that the child in you enjoys as much as your own kids.
